The route many a healthcare consumption product manufacturers are taking these days is to market their products through alternative marketing methods like multi-level marketing. When a consumer purchases the product, he/she pays the full price of the product (just as in regular retail); but since the company relies on the goodwill generated through usage, a customer that refers the product to a friend or colleague is compensated for the effort (just like an advertising agency would be paid). The difference though is that instead of the major payoff going to large corporate, the payoff is at an individual level to consumers.
