How to believe in miracles

I'm one of those rarely surprised or shocked. News alerts, barking dogs and angry people sneaking about Me just do not have the same effect on me like most people. I do not know if it's good or not, but it is a fact.

At the age of fourteen, for example, he was hired as an adviser to a Boy Scout camp. The directors are forced to sleep in his van for a week before the arrival of the campers to get familiar with the sounds of the countryside and night. At least that is the logic of the explanation he gave me.

My country, unfortunately, was a half mile from the main camp, deep thick forest. Not only was required to sleep alone in the field site every night, but had to make the long journey across the black road of the camp after dinner every night. While it is a little scary, but I was a man of fourteen, after all, and I was not going to let anyone that I was a coward.

At night before the arrival of the campers, the owners of the older directors, apparently motivated by boredom, painted their faces in "The Lord of the Flies" by Fashion and hid in the way of my camp. How they got there before me after dinner rejected a mystery, but somehow you managed without I hearing them. Then, what looked like the darkest in the woods, jumped up, shouting wildly shaking their lights that freezes the blood.

I'm not surprised. Do not flinch. I do not know if tired to camp a week to prepare me so that I could not answer, or if somehow in my subconscious that was half expecting do you get a bit of fun as Hi that. In any case, not fear. Several years later as an experienced believer, I had to experience one of the few true shocks in my life. In fact, it was a series of clashes. Read an article in a Christian magazine. The premise of the article is quite shocking to think there were people who said believe in God but not believe what he said in his speech. But it got worse, much worse. Unfortunately, only a handful of people said who believed that all the reported miracles. Over 95% of respondents do not believe that at least one recorded miracle and some believed not many. Most surprising is the fact that the miracle showed more skepticism was the virgin birth of Jesus.

I think I read the article I was ready all, but I did not see coming. In my dreams I could not imagine that people who say they believe that Jesus is the Son of God I can not believe he was born in a miraculous way, the Bible says. Reading the results election, it really surprised me.

Followed closely by the story of Jonah and the whale (or big fish). It was not as a shocking revelation. In some Instead, I realized that if someone was a skeptic, this is the case in skepticism and faith collide wine. However, it intrigues me how people can believe some of the Bible and not at all. Where do you draw the line?

That is, no disrespect to one of the other miraculous accounts (all of this writer believes), the Jonah's story is one that should be believed above all other miracles, simply because modern history gives credence to it. The following story may sound incredible but I assure you it is true.

In a whaler named "Star of the Sea" by England in the late nineteenth century, an incredible series of events that developed. The boat crew had harpooned a whale and settled on the side of the aisle, if she died. Without warning, the mighty giant beat tail, sending the crew of the boat into the abyss. With another slot on the muscular body, which was supported secure lines and rang. All but one of the crew was rescued. The missing man was pronounced dead at sea and records have been made in the logbook.

Nearly three days later another whale was harpooned and written into the main tank. This time, he was dead, and the crew began to treat the great beast. A couple of hours in the extraction process of fat and meat creature, one of the crew shouted with great concern "not a man inside."

In fact, there in the throat of legs of the great beast is hung his fallen comrade. They harpooned the whale that had even one day off before. Apparently in their haste to escape, unwittingly swallowed the crew member, and was caught in his throat cavity.

Unfortunately, colleagues began to cut the fat to reach your friend. After few minutes later came another cry to be alive, alive! "To the astonishment of the crew, his partner was still alive. Her hair and skin was shutout by enzymes present in the esophagus of early whales, but was placed so well that it was able to breathe by taking air large mammals and it was enough to sustain life.

The man was released from fleshy prison, but was unconscious and had little hope of survival. Interestingly, a few days later regained consciousness and eventually recovered completely.

The account is documented in the record books and record themselves in the UK. For believers who ignore God's ability to make the target could by a whale is a rare case in which this writer has really surprised.
