What acne treatments are
Since acne is a skin disorder most prevalent in the world, much research has been out to determine how acne forms and how to remove. Through the years a number of different treatments, medications and products have been developed to help control and eliminate acne.
Currently, there are about seven different treatments that are widely used in the prevention and elimination of acne. Subsequently, there are literally thousands of different products using these treatments in one form or another.
Acne Treatments
Accutane (Isotetinoin) Accutane is a very potent drug which is a derivative of vitamin A. That is normally prescribed for severe acne in cases where other treatments have failed to work. Accutane is normally taken for 4-6 months. The downside to Accutane is the high incidence of side effects, some serious.
Antibiotics are designed to fight bacteria and therefore used to control acne, especially from within. There are topical antibiotics such as clindamycin, which apply directly on the skin. Other antibiotics such as tetracycline are in pill form.
Benzoyl peroxide: An antibacterial agent used to control acne for many years, a. shown to work very well in the elimination and prevention of acne. benzol peroxide found in many prescription medicines self-medication and products.
Herbal remedies: A newcomer to the fight against acne are common medicinal plants. It is believed that some plants are effective in regulating oil levels and other bodily functions that pertain directly to acne.
Retin-A (Tretinoin) Retin-A is a combination retinoic acid and vitamin A acid, which is designed to treat acne, wrinkles, and sun damage .. supposedly made by unplugging the follicles and turnover in the dead Skin Cells.
Salicylic acid: This is another formula widely used in controlling acne, especially preventing future outbreaks. Salicylic acid helps slow the breakdown of cells within the follicle. It is available in many prescription medications.
Sulfur: Sulfur is used in the fight against acne mainly to promote drying and peeling of the skin. This may be good for eliminating existing acne but its effects on prevention of future acne are questionable.
There you have it. Most plans of acne consists of one or several previous formulas. It is important take into account that the skin of the whole world seems to react differently to these treatments. For some people, benzoyl peroxide works very well. For salicylic acid, others may work better. You really have to experiment a little and know what treatment is best for you.
